Smart Start Learning Centres offer the Begin Bright Early Learning Program. Begin Bright is an Australian program aimed at 3 – 6 year olds and gives children a positive beginning to learning early literacy and numeracy skills. The program promotes a love of learning and the opportunity to develop important skills necessary for school. The Begin Bright Program explores literacy and numeracy through memorable characters, stories and songs. All concepts are presented in a colourful workbook and supported by concrete materials. Children are also given a homework book which reinforces the work covered in class. The program is taught by a qualified teacher. Children attend once a week for one hour. Small classes (maximum of 8) allow the teacher to work individually with each child and also foster social skills as children gain confidence and make new friends.

Smart Start Learning Centres offer the Begin Bright Program at two levels;

Green Level

This level is designed for children aged 3 – 4 (i.e. 2 years prior to school). Using fun and memorable characters for each letter of the alphabet, this level introduces all of the letter sounds and ensures solid phonemic awareness of the English language. Children learn pencil grip, writing posture and are introduced to the correct way to form letters (NSW Foundation Handwriting). They are also encouraged to trace their names. Children learn to recognise, represent and write numbers 1 – 10.

Yellow Level

This level is designed for children aged 4 - 6 (i.e. the year prior to school). Children continue to learn about letter sounds. Single sounds are reviewed and children are encouraged to recognise sounds at the beginning, middle and end of three letter words. They are taught to sound out words and develop decoding skills that will assist them in reading. Children progress from tracing letters to forming letters independently. The ability to write their names without assistance is an important element at this level. Numbers 1 – 20 are the focus and children learn to add single digit numbers.

Fees

Classes run in line with New South Wales school terms and equate to $20 per lesson. The education pack which includes a full colour workbook, homework book, pencil and bag is $40 for the first term and $30 for each subsequent term.  Fees must be paid up front for each term and prior to the commencement of the first lesson. Fees are payable by direct deposit, cheque or cash.

Private and semi private lessons are also available to expedite your child’s progress. The fee for private tuition (1 child only) is $50 per lesson and semi private (2 children only) is $25 per child per lesson.

Progress Reports

A full colour certificate to reward the child’s success and an individual report to inform the parent of their child’s progress is presented at the end of each term.

Children may commence classes at anytime throughout the term.
